Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth   (Ps 46:10).

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls   (Matt 11:29).

I was sitting in a waiting room at an auto dealership recently, waiting for my car to be serviced. Present with me were four other people – 3 men and 1 woman. At times I have a tendency to interact but I consciously made the decision to listen to the busy four way conversation. Within twenty minutes I could tell you how old each person was, where they lived, how many children each one had, and where they were from. I also heard stories about their family members. After leaving, I was amazed by knowing so much about these people by simply sitting quietly and listening. At one moment, one of the conversationalists tried to turn the conversation over to me but I just smiled and nodded politely. And their discussion pressed on with all of them emitting an incredible amount of information about themselves. I am not suggesting that any of these people were doing anything wrong – they seemed to be very friendly. However, it became evident to me that perhaps I speak too much at times about the wrong things. So the verse came into my mind quickly. Be still and know that I am God (Ps 46:10). And as I was driving home, the words of Jesus came to me; “ . . . learn of Me and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matt 11:29).

At times, seemingly harmless talk can sometimes lead to gossip and un-necessary information being passed on to others - most of who do not need to know. Being still many times is the best way to hearing what others have to say. Being still is a wonderful way to hear what God says to each of us at times. When Elijah was out in the wilderness thinking that he was the only prophet left, he heard God’s voice eventually in a “still small voice”. He didn’t hear it in the wind, nor in an earthquake and not in the fire (1 Ki 19:12-13). By having a daily quiet time with God, we will find that He will speak to us clearly if we seek Him. Jesus said our souls will find rest.

Here are just three benefits of sometimes “Being Still” and learning of Jesus.

Receive • Replenish • Reward

Receive. Receive His word and His message by quietly interacting with God in prayer. Taking time and allowing Him to speak to you in a clear voice without all of the busy-ness of this world going on all around us. This is a good time to learn of Jesus.

Replenish. God will Replenish us by receiving His word and instruction. Ask Him to restore what has been taken away from you by this world. “Lord God, fill me with Your Holy Spirit to lead and guide me through this day.” God will restore you to where you need to be. This has to be done daily as this world attacks each one of us daily. Jesus said that our ‘souls will find rest’ by learning of Him’. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know Jesus better each day??

Reward. Our reward is knowing that we are glorifying God by what we do on a daily basis. Our goal is to glorify God and one of the ways we can do this is to rely on Him and live for Him daily. God has already sent our reward to us by sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to assure us salvation and peace in knowing we will be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ for eternity. There is no greater reward than that.

There are times to boldly proclaim the word of the LORD but there is a daily time of prayer and refreshing that we need to practice to stay closer to God (1 Thess 5:17). When I miss my “quiet time” with God, frankly, I run “out of gas”. I refer to it as Holy Ghost Power and I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way. We must always be careful NOT to quench the Holy Spirit that lives within us all. In all ways God must be exalted in all the earth.  Our Lord Jesus Christ, came to earth to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), if we are willing to receive Him (Jn 1:12). Praise God for His saving graceHe must be exalted.

BE STILL AND LEARN OF ME

If perchance, you do not know Jesus in a personal way, or you feel alienated from Him,
allow me to briefly describe who He is so that you may learn of Him.

• Jesus Christ is God in the flesh (John 1:1).
• Jesus Christ is the Creator of all things (John 1:3)
• Jesus Christ was sent from God to save us from eternal damnation (John 3:16-18).
• Jesus Christ will cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
• Jesus Christ will be with His followers always ( Matt 28:20).
• Jesus Christ tells us that when we belong to Him, it is permanent (John 10:28).
• Jesus Christ tells us that He is the only way to heaven - no other way (John 14:6).
• The Bible says we must confess and believe in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:9-10).

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation

(Rom 10:9-10)
