Daddy Take Me Fishing
A sad story • Gary Waddell • Victory Ministries Middle Tennessee • April 23, 2025
“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
(Pro 22:6)
Daddy take me fishing • so we can catch some fish
Someday we’ll have to do that son • I will fulfill that wish
Daddy let’s play ball outside • or maybe just play catch
Son I’ll take a rain check • I’ve got to fix this latch
Daddy will you go to church • and watch me in a play
Son I sure would do that • but there’s work to do today
Daddy will you read to me • when I go to bed
And tell me of this Daniel • in the lion’s den
Son I’ll have to pass tonight • I have to meet some friends
But tomorrow I will promise you • before the evening’s end
Dad I’m graduating • will you come watch me walk the stage
I’m proud of you my son • but I’ll be out of town that day
Dad I won’t be home for Christmas • I have to study for exams
But don’t you fret about me • cause I’m staying with some friends
Can you make it home for Easter son • we miss you here at home
Sorry dad, I can’t this month • Can’t leave my girl alone
Her name is Suzie Johnson • we married yesterday
I’m going to meet her parents • they live way up in Maine
Are we going to meet your wife son • it’s been almost a year
Sorry dad, the baby’s due • I’ve got to stay right here
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.” (Pro 4:20-21)
"Dad. Spend time with your children. You'll never regret it."
