Sickness & Healing -
Christ is Near
Bro Chris Mabe • Evangelist • Bella Vista, Arkansas
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.” (Ps 34:18)
Today sickness is something every human experiences at some point, whether in our bodies or our spirits. It can range from a lingering cold to life threatening diseases that test our endurance, faith and understanding. In those low valley moments, it is easy to wonder, where is God and why does He allow this pain?
God is not distant in our suffering. He is near to the brokenhearted and the crushed in spirit (Ps 34:18 – “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”), and His compassion toward the sick is clear throughout the Bible. Time after time, Jesus healed the blind, the lame, the leprous, and even raised the dead. He showed us that the Kingdom of God is a place where sickness cannot reign.
Even in those moments of unanswered prayer, there are times when God, in His wisdom, allows us to walk through illness so that we may draw closer to Him or become a witness of hope to others, for His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor 12:9 – “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”) . Healing may come in unexpected ways—sometimes in the form of physical restoration, sometimes as endurance through hardship, and sometimes as the ultimate healing of being called home to His eternal presence.
Today, if you are struggling with sickness today, take heart and cry out to the Lord. One of the most comforting truths is that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Heb 13:8 – “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”). His power to heal didn’t end with His earthly ministry, it continues today. The cross was not only a place where sin was defeated but also where sickness met its match. Isaiah 53:5 reminds us that Christ bore our suffering and purchased our healing with His own blood.
As you wait, worship Him. As you seek, trust Him. And as you hope, rest in the assurance that you are held by the Great Physician who knows your pain and is working all things out for your good. His grace is sufficient, and regardless of the outcome, God’s goodness remains unshaken, and He is Jehovah Rapha the Lord who heals the body and soul.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are the great healer. I bring every sickness, ache, and fear before You. I believe that by Your wounds, I am healed. Whether healing comes quickly or slowly, I trust in Your perfect will. Strengthen my faith, my body, and fill my heart with peace. In Your Mighty name, Amen.
By Permission: I have known Bro Mabe for more 45 years. He is truly a man of God.
