“Pray without ceasing.”
(1 Thess 5:17)
I have found the fourth verse of this marvelous hymn to be missing in many hymnals and I find that to be almost tragic. As a follower of Christ, a Christian, the following verse is what every believer is looking forward to in their short lifetimes on this earth. That is the rapture of the saints. “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thess 4:17-18)
Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer! • May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height, • I view my home and take my flight.
This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise • To seize the everlasting prize,
And shout, while passing thru the air, • Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!
Brethren, this is our goal ! Seizing the everlasting prize. Music / Song Leader, let us sing this verse with all of the enthusiasm we have. The Lord has already rescued us from the wrath to come. “. . . even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” (1 Thess 1:10) Let us shout with joy and glorify His name above all others. And let us pray continually to the King of kings and Lord of lords for He is definitely worthy. One hour of prayer time in a 24 hour day represents 4% of our day. God is worth far more than that. Let us reason, and turn our focus back on our Creator. Let us praise His name with our lips and our hearts, and pray continually. You will find out that an hour with the Lord is a “sweet experience.”
