Who Are You Fooling?

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. Ps 139:1-3

I love it! I read this phrase a few years ago on a church sign.

Be yourself; Everyone else is taken.”

A world of young people are not satisfied with who they are and are longing to be movie stars, dancers, singers, musicians and an array of other ‘famous’ people because they are not wanting to be themselves. Many of these "famous folks" (movie stars, sports figures, many politicians, and such) have fallen into a destructive lifestyle and are following the ways of this world which will eventually lead to destruction.  Many older people fall into this also because they are not satisfied with their lives or have failed at their job, marriage, and life in general they feel. In all cases they seek for recognition or satisfaction from another place. But the Almighty God has created all of us as individuals (Gen 1:27) for His glory. He placed us on this earth to bring glory to the name of the Lord (1 Cor 6:20) and so many are not satisfied with their lives because of envy, pride and wanting the things of this world. The Bible tells us to seek Him (Isa 55:6). So many are trying to fool others to believe we are somebody else.  God wants us to come out of this world.  The Bible says We are to come out from among them (2 Cor 6:17).

We may fool another person but we cannot fool God. He knows everything about us –  even our innermost thoughts. God wants us to fellowship with Him on a daily basis. He wants to hear from us in prayer. God knows the quantity of hairs on our head (Matt 10:30) and He cares for us deeply (Matt 10:31). And since He created us for His purpose, He is the One who will satisfy. God is all knowing, all seeing, and He is always there. So who are we fooling when we want to be something that we are not? God knows. We are not fooling Him.

If we have received Jesus Christ as our LORD and Savior in our lives (John 1:12) we become a son or daughter of the Most High GOD. You don’t get any better than that. He then will then direct your paths. He will show you what you need to do in this short life on earth. And God will guide you through the wicked detours and snares the devil and his world places in front of us. We need Him every minute of the day. Because of His love for us, God sent His precious Son to die on a cross to cleanse us from all of our unrighteousness (John 3:16) and our job is to follow Jesus since He showed us the way. He doesn’t want us to go down a path of fame and fortune and a raucous life or a life of debauchery.  Look at 1 Timothy 2:2 - we are to lead a quiet and peaceable life. I am not saying the God won’t give a person wealth because it happens periodically. But He will give us a life that satisfies. We will live forever somewhere and I pray it will be with Jesus our Lord, serving Him in Heaven. That is what His intentions are for us. God shows us in 2 Peter 3:9 that He is not willing for us to perish and that we should repent and turn to Him.  God will supply all our needs (Phil 4:19).

We may fool others trying to be someone else. We can even fool ourselves at times. But we can’t fool a holy and all-knowing God who knows our innermost thoughts. Let us all quit trying to be someone else and turn to the only true and satisfying life on earth. A life where we follow and serve Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord (John 12:26). God will honor that even though none of us deserve any honor. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven (Matt 10:32). Jesus spoke these words.

Receive Jesus (Rom 10:9-10) as Lord and Savior in your life and follow Him. You will never have to fool anyone else again and Jesus will accept you just as you are. Yourself – not anyone else. No fooling.  Remember, Be yourself -- Everyone else is taken.

Believe on Jesus Christ.  Believe that Jesus died for you. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed (Rom 10:11). Call upon Him today.

If you are reading this, it’s not too late.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
