For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Titus 2:11-12

Hello men, my name is Steve Agee. I am the pastor of Victory Baptist Church in Moulton, Alabama. My topic today is taken from the book of Titus and will challenge us as men to be godly examples in an ungodly society.

One of the greatest needs of the Church today is for men to be godly examples. With TV, Hollywood, and the internet constantly pumping out their godless life styles, we as men must take serious the call that God has given us to lead our families spiritually.

Paul, the apostle instructs young Titus to ordain elders in every city. He then told Titus to make sure these men were men of integrity. Paul also said that the bishops or overseers were stewards of God and must be blameless. The bishop was not to be self willed, not soon angry not given to wine, not a striker and not given to filthy lucre. One of their own prophets said that the Cretians were always liars and were evil. Paul told Titus to rebuke sharply those men who turn away from the truth. You see, these men professed that they knew God, but in works, they denied Him.

Men, what kind of example are you to your family and to the lost world around you? Please listen carefully to what Paul writes in Titus 2:11-14, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works”.

We need to understood that the standards of the church leaders were also to be stressed to every age group. Paul said that the aged men, the aged women, the young men, and even the slaves were to live in obedience to God and His word.

If our children and grandchildren do not see Christ in us, they will never know how to live their lives for the Lord. If we only talk the talk but fail to walk the walk we will be viewed as hypocrites. Think about what Paul says in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth;

Listen friend, God does have the power to save us and forgive us and to cleanse us from all our sins. Praise God! He even gives believers in Christ the power to live a life of victory.

Are you a believer? Do you believe that the Bible is God’s word to all people? His word tells us that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ (Eph 2:8-9) and not by our good works. Do you believe this truth? Do you believe that we can know that we are saved and we will forever live with the Lord? Do you believe that when we build our lives on the foundation of Jesus Christ, we will stand, no matter what comes our way?

These truths are all found in the inspired word of God which is sharper than any two edged sword! Jesus once said “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free(John 8:32). There was a Philippian jailor who once askedWhat must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30). Paul answered “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house” (Acts 16:31).

If you have never been saved, would you right now, wherever you are, place your faith in Jesus Christ and confess Him as Lord. Believe that He bled and died for your sins and rose again to be our risen Savior.

God tells us in Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Romans 6:23 declares, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” No matter how bad you think you are, God loves you and He will save you and use you for His glory.

Through Jesus Christ you can be a godly man and a godly example to all the children and troubled teens that have lost all hope.

Why don’t you bow right now and ask Jesus to come into your heart and be your personal Lord and Savior?! Amen.
