A MIRACLE EVERY DAY

We are Alive Because of a Beating Heart,

      AN 'EVERY DAY MIRACLE'

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.    Gen 2:7

for this man doeth many miracles  John 11:47b

One of the many miracles that Jesus performed while He walked on the earth was to raise Lazarus from the dead after four days in the tomb. Jesus loved Lazarus and his sisters Martha and Mary but needed to show a miracle to them and those around them. Jesus spoke in a loud voice saying “Lazarus, come forth,” and he came forth still bound in grave clothes. Even the Chief Priests and the Pharisees gathered to council (John 11:47) what to do with Him seeing He performed many miracles. There was no denying that Jesus could do this yet they wanted to put Him to death (John 11:53) because of jealousy.

Today I hear many preach and speak that the miracles of the days when Jesus walked the earth in bodily form, are not performed in this time. Many say ‘there are no miracles’. I have to deny that vehemently because I see them happen every day that I live. One of the many miracles I experience each day, is when I awake in the morning from sleep. My heart (and yours also) keeps me alive through the entire night whether I get a sound night’s sleep or I am restless. A Miracle Every Day. And who do I have to thank for that? My Lord Jesus who sustains me through my sleep. When I lie down in the evening to sleep I ask the God to give me the rest I require and to make my sleep peaceful and sweet. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. (Pro 3:24) This may be 'small potatoes to you' but to me it is kind of a Big thing.  A Big Miracle.

So why is this a miracle one might say? Let us look for a moment at the heart that the Lord Jesus created within us to “keep us alive” during our lives.

•   Definition: The heart is a muscular viscus, which is the primary organ of the blood's motion in an animal body, situated in the thorax. From this organ all the arteries arise, and in it all the veins terminate. By its alternate dilatation and contraction, the blood is received from the veins, and returned through the arteries, by which means the circulation is carried on and life preserved.

•   The average adult heart beats 72 times a minute; 100,000 times a day; 3,600,000 times a year; and 2.5 billion times during a lifetime. And for those who think that we simply evolved I say this to you. “Yeah, right.” What a foolish notion from those who have the continued desire to reject Christ the Creator of all (John 1:3).

•   Though weighing only 11 ounces on average, a healthy heart pumps 2,000 gallons of blood through 60,000 miles of blood vessels each day.

•   The volume of blood pumped by the heart can vary over a wide range, from five to 30 liters per minute.

•   A kitchen faucet would need to be turned on all the way for at least 45 years to equal the amount of blood pumped by the heart in an average lifetime.

Is this not a miracle? So think about these points regarding the human heart and when you pray and ask the Lord for peaceful and sweet sleep before you retire, you may understand the miracle which occurs in all of us each night – that is the case for believers as well as unbelievers. We should all ponder on the miracle in the morning and if able, drop down to our knees and thank God for this wonderful miracle daily.

Jesus Christ came to earth to die on the cross for our sins and arose from the dead (1 Cor 15:3-4) to show each of us that we will live forever, somewhere. God’s word, ‘the Bible,’ states “as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Heb 9:27-28). We all have an appointment time and those who are born again believers (John 3:3) will go to be with Jesus but those who have rejected Him in this life, will perish. Jesus said, “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3,5). He spoke those words twice in verse 3 and 5 just to emphasize its importance. Jesus spoke of hell often to warn those who reject Him and whose desire was to continue in sin. “Where the fire is not quenched” (Mark 9:43-45). He died for all of us if only we would confess Him, repent and follow.

Jesus is waiting (Rev 3:20) and will receive you lest you die in your sleep without Christ. Call upon Him today while there is time, and claim and enjoy the miracle all of us experience during our sleep – a continued beating heart. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon Him, to all that call upon Him in truth (Ps 145:18). Thank Him daily and often for a beating heart and the life He has given us and let us all glorify Him with our lives (1 Cor 6:20).

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Rom 10:13).

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
