A Better Day
Harry Amos Renville - Dakota Sioux

Many moons ago an old Indian might say,
Things were much different; it was a better day;

There was much open country and many buffalo,
We had freedom to roam where we wanted to go.
The white buffalo was sacred, the eagle was too,
We’d pray and fast and visions would come to you;

But things have changed as the years went by,
There are cars on the road, airplanes in the sky.
But along with these things came also the Word,
It taught us a story, the best I’ve heard;

It tells of a Savior, who died for us all,
We just need to believe in Him and He will hear our call.

Yes we might have roamed free over this land,
But not as free as you’ll feel when you take His hand;
There is a much better place you will see,
A home called heaven for your and for me.

More Native Americans are coming to know,
That studying the Word and believing is the only way to go;
So will you please come and learn with me,
About our Lord Jesus who will set us free.
Spread the good Word to our people, show them the way,
And we will rejoice together in heaven some day.
