That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:15-16

When our Lord was talking to Nicodemus about salvation, He said in verse 15, “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” This must have set Nicodemus back a bit, because he probably thought that is was whosoever good Jews that would receive eternal life. After all it was the Jews who kept the law, right? Then Jesus explains in verse 16 that it is God’s love for the whole world that He has made provision for everyone. Jesus loves you and has made provision for you, if you would only believe in Him.

I read a story about a pastor from California who told his members, to get in a line and then jump to the east coast. Obviously they failed in this attempt. When we try to measure against one another we tend to say I could never be the song leader at church or the preacher, I can’t sing or don’t know the Bible. In man’s eyes we are always trying to measure one another. But God on the other hand sees us the same, “we all fall short of the glory of God” (Luke 3:23). He loves you, and wants you to confess Him as Lord and Savior.

Just as we have not contributed to our physical birth, we have done nothing to contribute to our spiritual birth. When we were born we were not good enough to be born, we were not rich enough, and we did not even come to church enough to be born into this world. We were born into this world by the grace of God. We were not good enough, rich enough, and could not come to church enough, to be saved or born again.

Nicodemus and the Jews believed that God loved them and not the Gentile dogs, and that God hated the rest of the world, not true! We have already seen in verse 16, that God loved you so much that He gave His son for you. Why would God let anyone into heaven when all our efforts fall short of the Glory of God? (Rom 3:23).  It is because He loves you, and out of all the world He has chosen you. Isn’t that wonderful to know that the word of God says in Luke 19:10, “For the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. God ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” Amen.

We who are saved and know God’s love have been greatly blessed. When you believed on Jesus you were justified, as some say, just as if I had never sinned. We are saved by grace not of works, also comes with sanctification. God has given you the ability to live in this world by grace to grow t become more like His Son Jesus and live a godly life. Then one day you will meet Him in the air and He will glorify you, and all that believe.

I have heard some say you should not take the word of God personally, but I believe we should always take His word personally. We all as believers in Christ are responsible to God’s word, so as Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:19-20. We should do our part, not to be saved but because we are saved.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
