More Gab than Gospel

“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” (2 Tim 2:16)

Miriam Webster:   Babbling: idle, foolish or nonsensical talk or chatter
                               Gab: chatter; idle talk

I have met many Christian preachers over the decades and each one of them had a special gift to present the Gospel of Christ in a different way. Many were very good and I personally couldn’t “hold a candle” to them. (Side note: Saying from Victorian Period: Before electric lights, craftsmen would employ someone as a second pair of hands, usually a child, chiefly to hold candles close enough so they could see what they were doing.  Explanation - not Babbling). And while I am a long ways from a child, there are many with preaching skills far above mine. However, many have more gab than Gospel when it comes to presenting their message. The same can be said for anyone presenting the gospel, even to an individual.  ( And by the way, God is still working on me regarding this ).

When Jesus spoke a parable, it was always ‘an earthly story with a heavenly meaning’. It was a comparison pointing to His message, never just gab, or babblings. Whether we are preaching from behind the pulpit, or preaching to an individual, we should ask the LORD to guard our mouths. “Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips” (Ps 141:3). Let our message be clear and concise – to the point. Our goal? Tell ‘em who Jesus is, and what He has done for all of us (John 3:16).  Also the judgement for rejecting Christ.  “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day” (John 12:48). And be sure to tell ‘em that there is only one way to God, one Mediator, and that’s Jesus.  Without the gab.  Preach it Believers!

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus; (1 Tim 2:5).

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Philippians 2:5-8“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

A special thanks to Daniel Gibson of Tennessee Valley Web Design for his involvement in promoting God's holy word and a safe stop on the internet.

Our Friend Daniel Gibson went home to be with the LORD on March 17, 2018

Without Danny the re-posting of this site would have been delayed for another year at least.  Glory to God for Him placing Dan in my path.
