“Convictions in Our Life”

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”(Dan 1:8)
Do you have opinions, beliefs, or convictions about spiritual matters? As a person affected by sin, your opinions do not count much with God. A belief will change under circumstances (like peer pressure or persecution). God wants us to have convictions – a conviction is a truth we live by, based on God’s Word, and never changes.
Daniel Chapter One tells us about a godly young man who lived by convictions. Remember how Daniel’s country was conquered by Babylon. Daniel was taken into Babylon where he was offered a scholarship into Babylon’s Leadership Program. He would have free board and would eat at the King’s Table (Dan 1:5). But Daniel said “No!” to this great privilege. Why did Daniel refuse this offer from the King?
Daniel took a stand because he had convictions (Dan 1:8).
His reasons were: (1) The meat may have been unclean (Lev. 11:2); (2) The meat may have been killed improperly (Lev.17:10); or (3) The meat may have been offered to idols (1 Cor.10:28). In addition, Daniel had convictions about alcohol consumption (Prov 20:1) (Pro 23:29-32). God’s Word ruled Daniel !
How about you? What are your convictions about ?
* THE BIBLE. Do you believe the Bible is inerrant ? Let us live and die by God’s Word.
* THE CHURCH. Is the Church a building or Christ’s Body to you? Honor the Church.
* RIGHT and WRONG. What is your basis for right and wrong? Supreme Court? Society? Only God’s Word determines the standards of right and wrong.
* MARRIAGE. Today Satan attacks the home. Marriage is based on Society’s Preferences and Hollywood Examples. Unless God builds the home, the family will not survive.
Without godly convictions in our life, we will never glorify God, have rewards in Heaven, or be happy and useful to God. Build your life on the convictions from God’s Word.
